What is HYROX?
HYROX is a fitness race that combines running with functional workouts. The format is simple to understand, but hard to master: run, complete a workout, then repeat. It tests endurance, strength, pacing and how well you move when you are tired.
Build your engine
HYROX includes repeated running, so training needs to improve your stamina, breathing, recovery and pace control.
Get stronger under fatigue
Sleds, carries, lunges and wall balls all demand strength, especially after your heart rate is already high.
Put it all together
HYROX-style training blends running, strength and functional movements into sessions that feel close to race demands.
Royals Gym is an official HYROX Training Club
As an official HYROX Training Club, Royals Gym gives members a place to train the movements, fitness and strength needed for HYROX-style events.
You do not need to be signed up for a race to start. You can use HYROX training to improve general fitness, add structure to your gym sessions, or prepare for your first event.
The HYROX Race Format
A HYROX race follows a clear structure: each workout comes after a run. Training this way helps you prepare for the exact feeling of moving from running into functional work, then getting back out running again.
SkiErg
Build upper-body endurance, core control and breathing rhythm after your first run.
Sled Push
Train leg drive, power and control when your heart rate is already up.
Sled Pull
Work on grip, back strength, bracing and footwork under fatigue.
Burpee Broad Jumps
Develop full-body conditioning, coordination and the ability to keep moving.
Rowing
Improve power, pacing and breathing control after repeated running efforts.
Farmer’s Carry
Build grip strength, posture, core stability and control while carrying load.
Sandbag Lunges
Train leg strength, balance and composure late into the workout.
Wall Balls
Finish strong with squat endurance, accuracy and control under fatigue.
Training can be adapted to suit your current ability, experience and confidence level.
Who is it for?
HYROX training is not only for elite athletes. It can be scaled for different fitness levels, from members who want a new challenge through to people preparing for a race.
Start with the basics
Learn the movements, build a base level of running fitness and progress at a sensible pace.
Add structure
Give your training a clear focus by combining strength, cardio and conditioning in a more purposeful way.
Prepare properly
Work on pacing, weak points, movement efficiency and the ability to keep going when it gets uncomfortable.
How to get started
You do not need to know everything before you begin. Start with where your fitness is now, then build from there.
Ask the team
Speak to us in the gym and let us know whether you are training for general fitness, your first HYROX, or a future event.
Build your base
Focus on running, strength work and learning the key HYROX-style movements with good technique.
Train with intent
Add conditioning sessions, practise transitions and start putting the movements together under fatigue.
